Collecting & Handling
- Single mixing step (1:1 with fresh whole blood, room temp) — no PBMC isolation, no specialized on-site training or equipment needed.
- Compatible with both heparin and EDTA anticoagulants (heparin preferred if the same draw may also be used for functional/stimulation assays, since EDTA suppresses cellular responses).
- Tolerant of real-world timing variance: heparinized blood is stable up to ~24 hours at room temperature before mixing with the Stabiliser; the Stabiliser's core value is absorbing that real-world delay reliably, not instantaneous fixation.
- Available pre-filled in cryogenic tubes (hWBCS001-Txxx) for bedside/remote-site draws — standard PPE (gloves, eyewear) on an open bench is sufficient.
Storage & shipping robustness
- Validated long-term storage at −80°C — years of storage with fresh-equivalent flow cytometry data on thaw (marker intensity, SSC/granularity, and population structure all preserved).
- LN2 vapour-phase storage is compatible and has been directly recommended (liquid-phase LN2 is avoided for biosafety/regulatory reasons, not a performance limitation).
- Genuinely forgiving of cold-chain slip-ups: stable at room temperature for weeks (fine even sooner for shorter excursions), and a real-world case of a bottle sitting at 16°C for ~18 hours due to a fridge failure showed no quality impact. (−20°C is explicitly an emergency/temporary measure only, not for extended storage.)
- Sold two ways depending on logistics needs: ready-to-use single reagent (needs refrigeration for full 2-year+ shelf life), or a 2-component kit that ships and stores at room temperature and is reconstituted just before first use — useful for prolonged international transit.
Composition & practical handling
- Mostly organic compounds, not animal-derived; free of thimerosal/mercury.
- Formaldehyde content deliberately minimized — safe to use outside a fume hood under normal conditions with standard PPE.
- Bottles can be opened and reclosed repeatedly without degrading; remnants from different batches can be combined (batch-to-batch consistency is high), so large orders don't need to be split for stability reasons.
Species flexibility
- Dedicated human-optimized and murine-optimized formulations.
- Beyond the two formally validated species, customer use has shown the human version working on cynomolgus/rhesus macaque, canine, and porcine blood, and the murine version recently tested successfully in rats — not formally validated, but no chemistry-based reason it shouldn't extend broadly across mammalian blood.
